How To Save Your Summer Hair Disaster

By Sam Burns | August 31, 2018

Now that summer is coming to a close, the effects of sun, salt water, chlorine and perhaps even too much highlighting can equal a summer hair disaster.

The key to hair repair is condition, condition, condition. When you damage your hair you damage it from the inside out almost like how termites rot wood, so you don't notice the outside of your hair being damaged till the inside of your hair is structurally deficient.. Split ends mean your hair no longer has any outside hair protection. The protective layer on the outside of your hair is called the cuticle; it is many transparent layers of cells that resemble the shingles on a roof. When the cuticle is gone the hair starts to split exposing the inner most layer of your hair shaft. Salt water and chlorine easily damage the cuticle of your hair. Protective sprays before blow drying your hair and light weight surface conditioners are the best bet to keep your cuticle in tact.

If your hair tangles when it is wet, that means the inside of your hair is lacking moisture and your current conditioner is not penetrating enough to quench your thirsty hair. Excessive highlighting and too much time in the sun can draw moisture from your hair. Try looking for deep moisturizing conditioners that will not only detangle but also penetrate the hair where you need it most.

If your hair tends to break when you brush it or fall out in the shower your hair is weak. A strengthening shampoo and conditioner is the best cure for your weak hair. Many professional hair salons also offer strengthening in salon treatments to add much needed hair repair to weak brittle hair. It is a small investment to keep your hair from breaking off. If you have found yourself in the middle of a summer hair disaster your professional stylist is the proper consultant for your specific hair needs not the latest hair commercial on T.V... Remember your hair is your ultimate fashion accessory and long after your tan fades the hair on your head will be around for months to come.
