Bedhead can be edgy and hip, but not all the fellas out there want that "just woke up" look. Here are a few tips on how to control those curls, cowlicks, waves and bumps that seem to have minds of their own!
1. Smooth Operator
"Everything with guys has to be in small increments," says Sam Burns, Paul Mitchell Master Associate. "So we offer a service called "Smooth Operator." We basically do a drive-by with our Paul Mitchell Relaxer, wax on, wax off in two-to-five minutes. It's a great way to control cowlicks, stubborn growth direction, etc. And it's a slight adjustment, so the guy won't freak out because you took him from curly to Flat Stanley in a matter of hours!"
2 Clip and Texturize
Shorter lengths are easier to manage, notes American Crew Educator Al Urbanowski. "Slide-cutting with a razor will remove weight, which will also calm your client's texture," he says. "Be alert for dual-texture situations and design the cut accordingly. For example, you may need to keep the back and sides short and allow the top to be longer if top sections are less unruly. When grooming, American Crew Defining Paste and Grooming Cream are very effective ways to control these types of textures."
